The trail

Your road towards the West Highlands will cross Laggan Wolftrax, one of the premier bike centres in the UK. You can explore and improve your skills on one of the graded trails. Green, red, orange or black, there is something for every rider at Laggan Wolftrax.

On leaving the Laggan forest, you will see the landscape change dramatically, morphing into open hills, tranquil lochs, towering mountains and rushing rivers. You will bike through open grass moorlands and deep glens carved out by glaciers, all in the shadow of some of Scotland’s highest summits. Loch Linnhe, your end point for the day, is most famous for being the sea loch at the base of the highest peak of them all – the mighty Ben Nevis (1344 metres). A great place to take some snaps and end your coast to coast ride.

Afterwards, you will get a car transfer to the fishing village of Mallaig, home to a ferry terminal with services to Skye. This road, known as the Road to the Isles, follows the famous West Highland Railway Line, which has been described as one of the world’s great railway journeys. You will pass by the 21-arched Glenfinnan Viaduct, a location made famous in the Harry Potter films.

Riding surface

Here, you’ll find a bit of all sorts: forest singletrack trails, tarmac, 4-wheel-drive tracks and some wilderness trails in the open grasslands that can be wet in places.

Average mileage

You will bike 83 kilometres, 30km of which are on a remote tarmac trail, with a total ascent of 1050 metres.
