This trip is only available in late spring (mid-May to mid-June) and early autumn (September to mid-October) when the temperatures are cooler.

The trip is best enjoyed between September and mid-October since you will experience good cycling weather both in Colorado and high up in the Moab desert near Bryce Canyon. Average daytime temperatures for this period are as follows: Fruita, Grand Junction 16-27°C (60-80°F); Moab 16-30°C (60 -85°F); Bryce 02-23°C (35°F72°F); Zion 14-33°C (57°F-90°F).

Between mid-May and mid-June is another option as this is the earliest period that the Thunder Mountain trail is likely to be completely clear of snow. In addition, an abudance of wildflowers are in bloom from April through to June, peaking in May. In Moab, it’s a bit warmer in spring than it is in early autumn, but the sunny temperatures still make for ideal cycling weather, if you can stand a possible maximum of 33°C/90°F. Average daytime temperatures for this period are as follows: Fruita, Grand Junction 16-27°C (60-80°F); Moab 21-33°C (70-90°F); Bryce 01-21°C (33°F-70°F); Zion 13-30°C (55°F-85°F).

South-east Utah is part of the Colorado Plateau, a ‘high desert’ region that experiences wide temperature fluctuations, sometimes over 40°C in a single day. Day and night temperatures can also differ by as much as 30°F/17°C. However, mornings and evenings tend to be cool so wear layers in anticipation of changes in temperature.
