At the heart of every great adventure is a great local guide. Our Beyond Biking guides are from the areas in which they work, so they are guaranteed to know the best local hotspots. Their passion and expertise will help you experience your destination at its authentic best.
All of our guides are carefully-vetted and certified, as well as being recommended by some of the biggest names in mountain biking (such as Singletrack Magazine, IMB, Bike Radar, Bike Magazine, Orbea and Scott).
Expect warm, friendly service from people who will feel like old biking buddies rather than biking tour guides. If you’d like to know more about them, then check out our (slightly tongue in cheek) profiles.
Kelty
Kelty (Kiwi for ‘friends’) had been working for years in the New Zealand outdoors when he met his Scottish wife. He moved to Scotland in 2010, got married and started a family. Kelty is now working towards becoming a qualified Scottish bike guide. We’ve seen Kelty do everything with a smile. He’ll make sure that all you have to do is focus on the riding and having fun, as he handles the bikes, the lunch stops, the accommodation and the logistics. All you have to do every day is wake up and ride, then leave your bike with the van at the end of the day, eat, sleep and repeat. When he is not enjoying one of the many bike trails in the Cairngorms, Kelty enjoys skiing, golfing and a spot of fishing. Not a lot of people know this, but Kelty used to be a commercial jet boat driver in Queenstown, New Zealand. He can also juggle three apples.
Graham
Graham has worked outdoors his whole life and he’s still passionate about it. In the outdoor season, Graham guides walking, climbing, sailing and mountain biking tours. For the past 25 winters, he has worked forecasting avalanches on Ben Nevis. Despite having many adventures in the Himalayas, Karakorum, the Alps and many other exotic locations, his favourites place to be is still Scotland. Graham is very experienced, with extensive local knowledge of the trails. He also has a good understanding of the remote routes in the Isle of Skye and the Torridon Mountains, which are his favourite places to bike, and any deviations and alternatives. He is good bike mechanic and he is always helpful, whether you need to fix a puncture or fix a broken derailleur hanger. Graham has the most amazing senses of (dry) humour and is a connoisseur of (dry) single malt whisky. When describing himself, Graham couldn’t think of three words, just one: relax, relax and relax. When he is not guiding, Graham might feed his passion for sailing traditional Pilot Cutters, and skip various charter boats off the west coast of Scotland. Not a lot of people know that Graham used to be a film star – well not quite. He played a role in a Scottish TV series.
